Four Agreements of
Courageous Conversations

Picture

Having Courageous Conversations allows us to engage everyone. And to sustain and deepen conversations when it gets uncomfortable or diverted, which in turn ensures authentic understanding and meaningful interactions occur. We can do this by considering the four agreements which are:

1. To Stay Engaged- emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially

2. To Experience Discomfort- be willing to sit with your discomfort rather than exit. The more comfortable with being ‘uncomfortable’ you can become through your own practice, the more able you will be to address future courageous conversations.

3. To Speak your Truth- Be willing to take risks to be vulnerable and as honest as possible about your thoughts, feelings and opinions. Conversations will be limited if they are not honest. Honour everyone’s truths.

4. To Expect and Accept Non-closure- There are no “quick-fix” solutions.
